Specialty Areas

Although I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and am trained to assign a mental health diagnosis, I do not focus on them. Internal Family Systems is a non-pathologizing model. This means I get to know you and the system you grew up in, and currently live in. I may use some words and phrases from the Diagnostic Manual, but I don’t like to focus on labels. If you pay with insurance, a diagnosis is necessary, and this helps to inform your treatment. I do not currently have the credentials to assess for ADHD and Autism (hopefully in the future), but would love to work with you on working through the most difficult inner conflicts you experience due to having a differently wired brain. The goal for us, would be to uncover why you have the symptoms you have, and to heal the trauma that symptoms respond to. Below are some typical diagnoses or groups of symptoms that I specialize in treating.

  • ADHD & Autism

ADHD clients typically struggle with memory, organization, perfectionism, anxiety, time-blindness, dissociation, and paralyses/motivation. We will get to know your parts, and through compassion, you will learn how they can work together in harmony. Internal Family Systems is a great model for people who struggle with ADHD.

  • Childhood Trauma

Not every trauma we experience has to be overt abuse. Some abuse can be covert, small experiences, over a long period of time. Complex trauma or developmental trauma can be just as impactful as a traumatic event. Whether your trauma is something you remember, or a buried memory. We will work slowly and safely, to allow the healing to happen at your own pace.

  • LGBTQIA2S+

I am passionate about supporting people of all gender identities and sexual orientation. I completed a training in 2022, through the Hudson Valley Professional Development on Gender Affirming Care For Transgender And Gender Non-Conforming Clients. This training also highlighted writing letters of recommendation to medical doctors for gender confirming care or surgery.

  • Depression & Anxiety

Depression and Anxiety are very common, but in extreme roles, these parts can be debilitating. If you struggle with low motivation, too much sleep, too little sleep, or panic disorder, IFS is a great method to learn.

  • Addiction

IFS is an effective model for any kind of addiction work. Whether it’s binge eating, or alcoholism, we will explore your addiction together in a non judgmental manner. Taking the shame out of the addictive behavior is a much different approach than you may have experienced with other therapeutic models. In IFS the goal is to find acceptance and understanding, instead of trying to make a behavior “just go away.” We will work toward balance, not abstinence.

  • Mental Health Professionals

I work with many mental health professionals to help them to decrease burn out. We all need the added support. IFS is a great model for therapy or supervision because we will explore your parts that are triggered in sessions with your clients. I have 17 years in counseling experience, and 10 years of clinical experience.

  • Women & Mothers

Therapy can be very helpful for women trying to get pregnant, or parents who need support. Healing your own trauma can impact how you parent. I have been trained in Parent Child Interactive Therapy (2020), which increases positive interactions between parent and child. Learning these relational skills can strengthen your bond with your child.

I was a Functional Family Therapist in Syracuse, NY for three years (2014-2017). I helped families to repair their relationships, and learn new skills to better communicate. I am passionate about helping those who want to change, especially families who struggle with addiction in the family system.

PCIT and FFT are evidence based models that have statistically shown to make positive changes in relationships.
